Men's Hair Replacement Systems FAQ

Men's Hair Replacement Systems FAQ

In recent years, non-surgical hair replacement systems have emerged as a game-changing alternative to invasive surgical procedures, and they're growing in popularity for good reason. Our hair systems for men are the perfect choice if you want a full head of hair without the pain, downtime, or large upfront cost of surgery. Whatever your circumstances, we genuinely care about helping you through your hair loss journey.

Our systems come in 3 base types: Skin, Lace, and Hybrid Our systems offer 2 adhesive options: Strip Tape or Liquid Adhesive

Before you begin, it's worth asking yourself a few honest questions: What if my system only lasts 2 months — can I afford to replace it? Can I commit to maintenance visits, or would I need to learn to do this at home? Are my expectations realistic? We want this to be a great experience for you, so please read through the FAQ below before moving forward.

Hair systems FAQ’s

How long does it take to receive my hair system?

It depends on the type of system you choose. Stock systems can arrive in as little as one week, while custom systems can take up to 2–3 months to produce. Timing also varies based on your base type and color.

What if I live outside of Austin?

Many of our clients travel to get this done — you're not alone! Unfortunately at this time we do require you to come in for a consultation so we can properly match your hair. The only way around this would be for those who have to fly in, we would have to order a lighter system to custom color at the time of your install. During your in-person visit, we'll walk you through at-home maintenance and care. When it's time for a new system down the road, you'll need to come back in.

How much does it cost?

Hair systems vary in price depending on the base and manufacturer. Pricing varies by barber — Tiffany, Angelo, and Jessica each have their own rates.

New client system installs start at $500+ (Tiffany), $440+ (Angelo).

Existing client new system installs start at $300+ (Tiffany) and $240+ (Angelo).

Reinstallation of your current system ranges from $130–$225+ depending on your barber.

Quick reapplications start at $75–$112+.

Reapplications take place every 2-4 weeks and Systems typically last between 2–6 months, that's when you'll need a new one.

Does insurance cover hair systems?

In some cases, yes. If your hair loss is medically related, you may be able to get coverage. The key is to get a prescription from your doctor for a "cranial prosthesis" using the medical procedure code A9282 — make sure it does not say "wig," as that's considered a fashion item and won't be covered. Your insurance provider may have specific terminology requirements, so check with them directly before submitting a claim. If you want to go this route, it is all on you as we do not file paperwork for you.

How much does it cost to maintain long-term?

We believe in being fully transparent about this. The lifespan of a system varies widely — some clients get 2–3 months out of a system, others get 6–8. Here are three real-world scenarios to help you decide if this lifestyle fits your budget:

  • Client A does his own maintenance at home and replaces 2 systems per year — roughly $1,300/year or $3.56/day.
  • Client B replaces 4 systems per year and comes in monthly for a reinstall and haircut — roughly $4,648/year or $12.73/day.
  • Client C replaces 6 systems per year and comes in every 2 weeks for a Reinstall and haircut — roughly $10,620/year or $29.10/day.

These are estimates, and everyone's experience is different. We just want you going in with realistic expectations!

Why choose a hair system over surgery?

Honestly, most people would pay anything for perfect biological hair — but the technology just isn't there yet. A hair system gives you instant, guaranteed results with no downtime, no pain, and no massive upfront investment. We've had countless clients who tried surgery, hair fibers, finasteride, LED helmets, SMP, and more — and nearly all of them say they wish they'd found this first. The real questions to ask yourself: Can you afford it? Can you maintain it? Are you comfortable with the idea of hair being bonded to your scalp? If the answer is yes, this could genuinely change your life.

What does maintenance actually look like?

Reapplication frequency depends on the method and your individual body chemistry, but we aim for a 3-week sweet spot for most clients. You'll remove, clean, and reapply your system anywhere from every 1–4 weeks. Tape tends to be easier for at-home maintenance, while glue often feels more natural. Some clients only see us when they need a new system; others come in every few weeks. It's fully customizable to your lifestyle and budget.

Which base type is right for me?

  • Lace is the most breathable option, which makes it great for active guys — especially if you're only bonding the perimeter of the unit. However it is the hardest to clean and the adhesive tends to seep through after the 2 week mark, requiring more maintenance.
  • Skin units are significantly less breathable but are way easier to clean since residue doesn't break down into the hair fibers.
  • Hybrid units are a mix of poly and lace. Depending on your hair loss area these systems may or may not work for your needs.

What's the most natural-looking hairline?

Thin skin units offer the most undetectable hairlines in our opinion. The trade-off is durability — they typically last 1–4 months, so you'll be replacing them more often. That said, with the right styling, you can easily blend the hairline so it's virtually invisible.

Which bonding method should I choose?

It really comes down to your lifestyle and scalp type:

  • Tape is easier to apply at home, more resistant to water and sweat, and great for oily scalps. The downside is that residue buildup over time can be tough to remove.
  • Glue feels the most natural, can last longer, and is generally easier to clean — but it takes a little more practice to apply at home.

If you sweat a lot or have an oily scalp, we'll likely recommend a silicone tape adhesive. Most of our tapes are hypoallergenic, so reactions are rare. Ultimately, a lot of clients experiment a bit before landing on what works best for them.

Is it itchy?

It can be occasionally — mostly when the hair underneath starts growing back. It's nothing dramatic, and most clients get used to it quickly.

Can I shower or swim?

Absolutely. Just make sure to shower after swimming to keep the hair clean and in good condition.

Will the adhesive clog my pores or affect hair growth?

No. Our adhesives are specially formulated not to block follicles or clog pores. You'll continue to grow hair underneath the system at the same rate as before — no change there.

Is it real human hair?

Yes! Every system is made with human hair, hand-tied into the base. Systems with a high percentage of gray may include some synthetic fiber blended in, and in some cases the hair may be combined with yak hair, which is remarkably similar in texture to human hair.

Will people be able to tell I'm wearing a hair system?

When applied and maintained correctly, your system will be virtually undetectable. An exposed hairline may be noticeable to you, but most people around you won't notice a thing. If you're styling your hair to blend the hairline, there's truly no way to tell. We're often our own harshest critics — wear it with confidence, and nobody's going to be studying your scalp.

Is it a lot of work?

Think of it like wearing contact lenses. There's a small learning curve at first, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes quick and second nature. We make a point of teaching every client how to manage their system independently — because we want you to feel empowered, not dependent.
